Future Features

Assuming the prototype confirms that SketchPenVr is worth further development, here are the major features planned for production release.

  • Image panels
    • This feature will allow you to add “image panels” into the VR space. Each of these panels will show a single image for reference or art subject.
    • To complement image panels, “Save Scene” will be added, allowing you to save the current VR space and load it back at a later time.
    • To complement image panels, an action will be added that allows you to fade the desktop panel in and out. This will let you put an image panel behind the desktop panel and quickly switch between them.
  • Desktop clip panel
    • This feature will allow you to add “clip panels” into the VR space. A clip panel shows a subset of the full desktop panel and can be manipulated in all the same ways that a desktop panel can. This allows you to focus on a small piece of your work while glancing up at the desktop panel to see the entire work.
  • Setup wizard
    • Setup is a bit cumbersome, especially the grip adjustment. I have a few ideas for streamlining this.
  • Better digital art application compatibility
    • Tests have shown decent compatibility so far. Still, it could be better.
  • Controller configuration presets and usability
    • It’d be useful to have controller configuration presets and a rapid way to switch them, import and export them. This would:
      • allow for mappings for different digital art applications
      • allow for mappings for different workflows within a digital art application
      • allow you to use mappings made by other users
      • allow for multi-button actions through an action to swap presets while its button is pressed
  • Proper hybrid graphics support
    • I support computers with hybrid graphics (i.e. gaming laptops), but currently they require a separate build. This would add an auto-detect for them.
  • Proper backgrounds and background importing
    • The backgrounds are placeholder for now (except for the ‘neutral’ ones).
  • Optimization, fine tuning, bug fixing and user suggestions
    • All of the normal tasks it takes to get to a production-grade build.
